Agricultural Seed Development and Distribution Company I.T. Department

The client was the I.T. Department of a medium size agricultural seed development and distribution company.   I had previously developed a strategic plan for the same I.T. Director when he was with a different organization.  This engagement developed a three year plan that served for five years, dramatically improved performance and resolved a major area of misunderstanding in the team.

Problem

The department did not have any sort of plan.

There was strife between the new I.T. Director and a senior business analyst who had been with the company for 25 years and was on the point of getting fired.

There were no key performance indicators for the team.

Action

Resolution

The StratSnap© process identified a fundamental lack of understanding of the business strategic priorities on the part of the senior business analyst that was leading to the strife referred to above.  Once identified management and the Human Resources manager sat with the business analysist and he agreed to realign his priorities with those of the company.  

He worked closely and constructively with the I.T. Director for the next five years up to retirement.  This is an example of how the “secret sauce” referred to previously can have dramatic positive impacts on a client organization.

The StratSnap© generated a set of three-year strategic priorities for the I.T. Department which held for the next five years and informed the actions of I.T. leadership such that the Department moved from a situation of a high level of business dissatisfaction to a position of high satisfaction.  After five years the client merged with a large multinational and the department was absorbed into the global I.T. team.

The KPI’s developed were used effectively for the full five year period referred to above and greatly contributed to achieving the outstanding performance referred to above.
